Measure twice, cut once. Then run to Lowe's for more saw blades.
It's a myth to think you have to use special paint to create chalkboard space on a wall. Chalk will write on any painted surface (assuming latex paint was used, that is). The darker the paint color, the better the writing will appear. And it washes off with water.
Just the opposite. The more you call attention to the ceiling, the larger and more interesting the room can look. Changing the color of a ceiling actually forces the eye upwards so that walls, windows, and objects in the room are now fully noticed.
Steal someone else's by asking your paint store for the top 10 colors purchased by their customers. There's a very good chance that one of them will be the ideal color for your project. This also works for carpet, tile, hardwood, etc.
Start with the rug (if one is to be included), then work your way up (sofa, chairs, other upholstered pieces, tables, etc.). Choose window treatments next, then lighting and small items (lamps, accessories, artwork). Paint color should come last.

Absolutely: this is the best way to get unstuck. It’s a low monetary commitment and can be a fantastic catalyst to getting a project completed. The creative process really takes on momentum when you have the chance to talk paint, color, fabric, lighting, etc. with a designer. Remember: designers are people who have a true passion and talent for creating beautiful and functional spaces. They think about design and decorating constantly and see things from a different perspective.
That would be me (Kathy). The real "Miss Manners", of course, is Judith Martin, an authority on etiquette. I liked the subtle play on words. I also really liked the board game "Clue" as a kid. I always wanted to live in a house with a Billiard Room and a Conservatory. Minus the dead body, of course.
